Kolbe Cathedral Dismisses Barlow

Kolbe Cathedral demonstrated why its a perennial SWC powerhouse by dispatching Barlow with ease, 67-36. In spite of scoring only 36 points, Jason Greenberg, the straw that stirs the Falcons' drink, still managed to collect 10 assists. Freshmen Tom Auer and Nelson Diaz led a spirited group of underclassmen, showcasing the future of Barlow basketball.

New Fairfield Holds Falcons in Check, 60-45

Jason Greenberg led Barlow with 15 points and received solid contributions off the bench from Jay Gillman and freshman Tom Auer, but New Fairfield's staunch defense kept the Falcons in check in Barlow's loss.

Amity Crushes Barlow Spirit on Senior Night

Despite a huge home turnout for Senior Night, the Barlow Falcons couldn't handle Amity's tough man-to-man defense and their own lethargic play in losing 46-32 in a nonconference game. Barlow was only two points behind after three quarters, but was outscored 19-7 in the fourth quarter.

Falcons Upset Stratford 68-64 in Overtime

Jason Greenberg tallied a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as Barlow stunned favored Stratford in overtime. Stratford, playing without leading scorer Tim Martin, wasn't able to stop a Barlow rally late in the game. Aaron Kaufman and Greenberg accounted for 12 of Barlow's 16 points in the overtime, and the Falcons made 19-of-21 free throws in victory.

Notre Dame's Sharpshooting Downs the Falcons

Joel Barlow kept pace with the Fairfield Notre-Dame through three quarters, but Notre Dame's Matt Maya scored 16 points in the last quarter as the Lancers pulled away for a 75-59 win. Maya made six three-point baskets and 27 points overall with Greg DeSantis adding 20.

Pomperaug Tops Feisty Barlow, 58-49

After a lethargic start in which they fell behind 16-1, the Joel Barlow Falcons nearly pulled off an upset on Pomperaug's home court. The Falcons pulled within two points late in the game before Pomperaug put the game away. Dan Mercede led Barlow's resurgence with a solid rebounding and eight points.

Barlow Holds off Scrappy Immaculate, 52-49

Jason Greenberg was 7-of-8 from the free throw line, including some clutch free throws in the closing minute, as the Falcons held off a tough Mustang squad, featuring Redding's Morgan Diamant. Ten players registered at least one basket in this team effort, Barlow's fourth victory of the season against six losses.

New Milford Tops Barlow, 72-56

Another turnover plagued first half allowed New Milford to take a commanding 12-point lead, as Barlow lost to the Green Wave for the second time this season. The Falcons narrowed the lead to as little as six points in the second half with help off the bench from Jay Gillman, who scored 12 points. Dan Mercede chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.

Barlow Holds Off Weston, 37-32

Corey Stevens wracked up a double-double, leading Barlow in scoring with 11 points and 10 boards, and Alex Delmore converted on a key layup with 10 seconds remaining to help the Falcons stave off a determined Weston team.

Newtown Remains Undefeated as it Holds Off Scrappy Falcons, 73-61

Joel Barlow jumped to a quick 8-3 lead, but Newtown roared back with 14 unanswerd points to gain control of the game in the first quarter. Newtown's balance, with seven different players making three-point baskets, was too much for the Falcons in their SWC opener.

New Milford's Balance Sends Barlow to Defeat

Joel Barlow rallied from a 12-point first half deficit to pull within six in the third quarter, but New Milford was able to quell the rally and pull away in the fourth quarter with a 69-49 victory. Jason Greenberg led the Falcons with 18 points. Greg Mendell chipped in with six.

Southington Stifles Falcons, 55-41

Turnovers proved to be the downfall of the Joel Barlow Falcons again, as they were unable to overcome a 36-18 halftime deficit in a non-conference matchup against Class LL Southington.

Falcons Defeat Kaynor Tech at Home

A strong second-half surge carried Joel Barlow over Kaynor Tech, 58-43, on Wednesday, Dec. 26.  Strong bench play by Drew Zembruski, Alex Delmore, Steve Fitzgerald, Greg Mendell and Andrew Carlson, plus Dan Mercede's 14 points helped carry the Falcons to their second win of the season.

New Fairfield Spoils Barlow Home Opener

New Fairfield's Rebels defeated a turnover prone Barlow team 54-37 in the Falcon's home opener. >GO

Bethel Holds Off Determined Falcons

Bethel withstood a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Joel Barlow 50-42 in the title game of the Danbury Tip Off Tournament.  Jason Greenberg led the way for Barlow with 23 points. >GO

WATERFORD ENDS JOEL BARLOW'S 2007 TITLE QUEST WITH ONE-POINT VICTORY IN STATE SEMI-FINALS
The Falcons lost its bid for a CIAC Class M championship with a 34-33 loss to Waterford High School in the semi-final match in New Haven on March 13. The Falcons had won three straight tournament games, one of the best post-season performances in Barlow boys basketball history. The Falcons defeated 13-7 Hyde Leadership 63-60 in overtime in the tournament opener; beat Cheney Tech (17-3) in the second round, 46-39; and topped Lewis Mills (18-4) by a score of 73-59, before succumbing to Waterford.
